Why should you fit Finger protection?

BS EN 16005 2012  highlights the importance of preventing finger trap hazards with hinge and pivot areas.

The standard states the danger points between the door leaf and frame must be eliminated structurally or protected using appropriate safety devices.

According to ADSA guidance the following solutions are acceptable:

  1. Door  construction that inherently prevents fingers from being trapped.
  2. Finger guard.
  3. Sensors providing hinge area protection.

All installations  must be risk assessed. This should consider user types, door height, manual use and any unprotected zones.

Where  finger guards are fitted, the selected product should appropriate for the building users and ideally  comply to the requirements of BS 8613.
